1 Day Down!

I just finished the first day of the Texas Bar Exam. It is only half a day and it could not have gone better. The MPT required me to write a memo to a senior partner regarding a custody issue. I did this for John Henig at Copeland Franco about 10 times. I had two statutes and two cases to draw the law from and some facts for me and against me. I feel like I wrote a wonderful memo and finished with enough time to proofread and correct a few small mistakes. My penmanship was OK but I will need to focus more on that when I have to write 12 essays on Thursday. The second half of the morning consisted of Civil & Criminal Procedure and Evidence. I had 90 minutes to complete the two sets. Each set has 20 short answer questions. I started with Civil Procedure and felt like I knew the answer to every single question without flinching. Criminal Procedure started off with a question I was completely unsure of...I made up something and feel like I probably got some points for my answer. There was one other question like that in Criminal Procedure towards the end. So out of 40 total P & E questions I felt like I nailed 38 of them. I also finished P & E in only 50 minutes. I always finished tests early in law school and I think I was first of the more than 1,400 people at my test site. This is a huge relief because I am sure I now have a large cushion going into the final two days. Tomorrow is the MBE (Multiple choice). I have 3 hours to do 100 questions in the morning and the same in the afternoon. If I can maintain my average of 150 raw points I will be on my way to passing even if I fall asleep during the essays on Thursday. The nerves are calm and while I didn't sleep a whole lot last night...I think tonight will be a different story. I appreciate all the calls, emails, and facebook messages of encouragement. I should also mention that I arrived at the test site around 30 minutes early and took a few minutes to read the Bible. Amazingly, my Bible fell open to Philippians chapter 4 and I just started reading. It was a huge encouragement. In two days I will be able to say..."Ihave fought the good fight, I have finished the BAR".

I'm so glad you feel so good about Day 1. By the way, I thought you said on the phone that you finished in 15 minutes, instead of 50...that scared me a bit! I'm glad it was 50! :) I love you!

Wow, how WONDERFUL to have that good feeling after your first day at the Bar exam! I'm sure there aren't many people who can say that! Hang in there and keep up the good work!
