I'm not in Kansas Anymore...or Oklahoma or Alabama!

I had orientation for my LLM tonight. I received all my syllabi and first week assignments for classes. Needless to say after looking them over I was feeling incredibly overwhelmed. I have over 1oo pages of information to read for my first 2 classes on Thursday. I have to write over 90 pages of publishable quality papers in addition to my 3 written finals. After the initial big orientation on the library, internet, id cards, subway passes, and the like...we broke out into our individual LLM centers. In my group there were only 3 Americans. I have classmates from China, Kenya, Mexico, Sweden, Paraguay, Ukraine, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland, India, and Australia. After talking to some of them I realized that I am probably not nearly as overwhelmed as they are...many of them cannot find a place to live because they do not have a SSN for the landlords to run credit checks. Some of them struggle getting around because they know only a little english. I am going to try and help a couple of them find some apartments near me this weekend. I am sure I will do fine in my program. I just need to get back into the full time study mode. I have also been stressed about finding a job. The school said I shouldn't have a problem finding a job as a research assistant but they are not sending out the email to faculty until tomorrow so I won't start working for at least another week and even when I start I know my paycheck will not even cover my rent and utilities. Lori is working hard back in Alabama so she should be able to help me with some of the expenses. Tomorrow starts the beginning of a very difficult 4 months or so but I will get through it and be stronger for it. On a bright note...I am going to be way too busy to worry about the Texas Bar Results...someone call me on November 7th and remind me to check the website and see if I passed. Well that is all I have for now...until next time...adios amigos!
